Facts matter. Climate matters. Your support matters.

Keep climate a national priority

CNO discussion I recently moderated has got me thinking more intensely about the state of Canadian journalism. Receiving credible information from trusted sources was a fact of life that many of us took for granted not too long ago.  Unfortunately, this information is becoming scarce in a diminished media landscape pockmarked with so-called news deserts and sullied by bad actors.

During times of crisis, such as the recent pandemic and now the trade war with the United States, the reliability of that information from trusted sources is paramount, not only for democracy but for the planet.

Incredible actors continue to fill the void left by legacy media. And when it comes to climate, the incredible actors are finding innovative and insidious ways to thwart the kind of action we need to protect our planet.

Enter Canada’s National Observer

As the new managing editor, I was thrilled to host the disinformation discussion, and would like to do more sessions on a wider range of topics that dig into ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. These sessions are informative, giving all of us a chance to be part of the discussion.

I would also like to take on the misinformation, disinformation, and, yes, lies head-on with undeniable facts through even more opinion pieces, harder-hitting news stories from our talented reporters and more data-driven investigations that allow us to dig deeper and wider.

For a decade, Canada's National Observer has revealed what's really happening – exposing greenwashing, sparking policy change, and delivering the truth about our climate’s future. As climate facts are erased and disinformation flourishes, our democracy faces a critical threat.

We need to strengthen our ability to adapt to the evolving threat posed by the climate deniers and skeptics. But we can’t do this without your help. Whatever you can give will be put to good use – the planet deserves our best shot.

Your donation today to the Climate Solutions Reporting Project helps us reach our $150,000 Spring fundraising goal and strengthens our ability to counter climate disinformation with facts, investigations, and solutions journalism. In this critical moment for our planet, will you stand with us?
