IKEA moved to ban single-use plastics on Friday as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kicked off the G7 summit in Quebec where he is pushing for a charter to reduce plastic waste pollution in the world's oceans.

“I have been Russia’s worst nightmare...but with that being said, Russia should be in this meeting,” Trump said Friday at the White House, according to press reports. “It may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run...they should let Russia back in.”

The U.S. president would have been included in a G7 working session devoted to "climate change and clean energy" on the second day of the summit, officials had confirmed this week.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday morning that he is "getting ready to go to the G7 in Canada to fight for our country on trade."

The issue of climate at the summit in Charlevoix, Que. remains front and centre in civil society, as more than 45 foundations around the world called on the G7 on Tuesday to put its commitment to phase out fossil fuel subsidies by 2025 into action.

With less than two weeks to go before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosts the G7 in La Malbaie, Que., his chief summit organizer has already been pressed at a keynote dinner appearance on May 10 whether the G7 would act again as a “six-plus-one” body, with the U.S. as the outlier.
