A federal wage subsidy for employees in businesses hit hard by COVID-19 will last at least through the summer and the federal government is asking companies to rehire laid off staff — many of whom have received aid from an emergency benefit that has gone over budget.

Businesses of any size that have seen sharp and sudden drops in revenues due to COVID-19 will be eligible for a new federal wage subsidy program, the federal government said on Monday, March 30, 2020, just as it signalled more help for some of the country's major employers.

Canadians could soon be putting $250 a year in federal tax credits toward better skills, while getting federal help to pay the bills.
