The federal Conservative Party is distancing itself from the National Firearms Association to dispel attacks from the Liberals painting it as a party that strikes deals with gun lobbyists. It even amended party policy to say that, if elected, a Conservative government would keep with the Liberal gun restrictions and complete a review of those rules.

Bill C-204 seeks to halt only the export of plastic waste labelled “for final disposal,” however environmental groups note Canadian plastic is often mislabelled as recyclable and gets shipped to countries that lack the proper infrastructure to effectively recycle mixed or contaminated plastic waste.

The Canada Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) was supposed to launch its Compliance and Dispute Resolution Mechanism in November, but it was delayed because CORE extended the consultation period relating to its operating procedures to early December.

The Bloc victory stopped the Conservative Party’s hope of forming government.
