Ontario Premier Doug Ford is urging all of his fellow premiers to join his province and others in taking steps to remove barriers to the free flow of goods and workers within Canada, pitching it as a way to shore up the economy against the effects of American tariffs.

Ford says in a statement that he and Carney had a productive discussion, agreeing on the need to stand firm in the face of U.S. President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on Canadian goods.

Premier Doug Ford has announced the price increase on the electricity the province sends to 1.5 million homes in three U.S. states as one of Ontario's retaliatory measures against tariffs imposed on Canadian goods by President Donald Trump.

Ontario provides electricity to Minnesota, New York and Michigan.

The meeting of the 13 premiers, chaired by Ford, took place the same day as Chrystia Freeland resigned as federal finance minister, before she was set to present her government's fall economic statement.
