GATINEAU, Que. — The assault trial of Sen. Patrick Brazeau is expected to resume this morning.

Brazeau has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and sexual assault arising from an alleged incident two years ago in the western Quebec community of Gatineau.

The female complainant, whose identity is protected, claims Brazeau pushed her down stairs, choked her, hit her head against a wall, spat on her and sexually assaulted her.

She testified she feared for her life during the alleged fracas with Brazeau.

The trial was originally meant to last three days but when it adjourned in late June, it had sat for eight days.
