Canada's privacy watchdog says he's worried that privacy rights in Canada are being cast aside as both public and private entities rush to mine digital data from citizens and customers.
"Information about our political views is highly sensitive and it’s clearly unacceptable that federal and provincial political parties are not subject to privacy laws," said federal privacy commissioner Daniel Therrien on Monday.
Equifax Canada says approximately 100,000 Canadian consumers may have had their personal information compromised in the massive cyberattack on the credit data company made public earlier this month.
