Patrick McCurdy (PhD, LSE) is an associate professor in the department of communication, University of Ottawa. His research straddles environmental communication and social movement scholarship. Since 2014 he has focussed on the polarized debate over the Athabasca bitumen sands and Canada’s energy future. His current SSHRC-funded research examines the political and media legacy of the banned 1977 CBC docudrama The Tar Sands as both a product and artifact of Canadian petroculture.
